Cameras

  • Canon EOS R6 MK II

This camera is something special. Lightening quick auto focus (yes, even with EF glass!) with the ability to auto detect anything from human eyes to wildlife and vehicles. Its a one stop shop for stills and video.

  • Canon EOS R

    Canon EOS R

This model gets a lot of stick due to its experimental features, but, its been a workhorse. The 30MP sensor gives plenty of space for cropping in without losing too much resolution. Also pretty good in low light.

Lenses

  • RF 24-70mm f2.8 L USM

One of the three Holy Trinity lenses. Great all rounder lens.

  • RF 50mm 1.8 STM

Who doesn’t have a Nifty Fifty in their bag!?

  • RF Laowa 15mm f2

Great lightweight lens for astrophotography. Manual focus only.

  • EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6l IS II USM

The super telephoto of choice. Super sharp throughout the zoom range. Normally found living on my camera body.

  • EF 85mm f1.4 L IS USM

The go too walkabout and portrait lens! Works flawlessly adapted to the EOS R system.

  • EF 100mm f2.8L USM Macro

Probably one of the underappreciated primes from the EF range. Brilliant macro capabilities with a true 1:1 ratio. Great lens for portraiture too.

Tripods

  • Manfrotto BeFree GT XPro

Great general purpose tripod, hasn’t let me down yet. I did replace the quick release plate for the Arca Swiss model soon after purchase.

  • 3 Legged Thing Ray

Brilliant little travel tripod. Lightweight carbon and can fit length ways in the Lowepro 450.

Extras

  • 3 Legged Thing Ellie

Solid L-Plate from 3 Legged Thing. Another item that rarely leaves the camera body.

  • EOS EF -> RF Adapter

Shipped with the camera body. Never missed a beat.

  • EF 1.4x Extender iii

Great for that additional optical punch required for wildlife. Still surprisingly sharp when paired with the 100-400.

  • DJI Mavic Mini

Wrapped in bright orange, its hard to miss against the sky! Easy to operate entry level drone for gaining that aerial perspective.

  • Move Shoot Move Rotator

A relatively new addition to the kit bag. So far so good when teamed up with the Z-Plate and L-Plate also offered by MSM.

  • LumeCube Panel

The big brother of the mini. Large enough when attached to the hotshoe for video and macro. Great for light trails for night long exposures. Range from 3200k to 5600k.

Bags

  • Lowepro BP 450 AW ii

This thing is solid. Ample space inside, plenty of dividers which can be relocated to suit your needs. Chest strap and cummerbund for those times were extra support is needed. Lots of wee cubby holes for extras, laptops/tablets and any webbing attachments you may need that can be clipped onto the front. Easily deployable rain shield at the bottom of the bag to help protect your gear from the elements.

  • Lowepro Tahoe BP 150

A mini version of the BP 450. Has the capacity to store a body and a few smaller sized lenses. Has pouches on the front and side for cables and a water bottle, along with clip straps for a stowing a tripod.

Filters

  • Hoya R72 Infrared

Produces lovely ethereal images when attached. Lets some of the red visible light spectrum through which helps when going for those false colour IR images.

  • Marumi CPL

Easy to use filter with made of high quality glass with an aluminium frame. When fully polarised, produces clean images with next to no colour casting.

  • Hoya ND 500

Nine stop ND, great for those long exposures
